Hello! Hallo! Guten Tag! Bonjour!

Welcome to

Dream Workshops Amsterdam!

We are the first and only decoden workshop experience in The Netherlands!

We are also the first and only Hanfu Hairsticks and UV Resin Shaker workshop in The Netherlands!
&
The Official Amsterdam Origami Club!

Join us for some super cute! creative fun! with our Asian themed Arts, Crafts and Cooking workshops.

What is Decoden?

Decoden is a modern Japanese art form where everyday objects are decorated using colourful silicone "whipped cream" and adorned with cute gems and charms.

The word Decoden is short for "Decorate Denwa", which means decorate mobile phone in Japanese.
The decorative pieces—gems and charms—are often called cabochons.

Traditionally, phone cases are elaborately covered in the cream to resemble cake frosting, then embellished with cute charms, sparkling gems and jewels, colourful sprinkles and glitter.

However, the artform has evolved and you can Decoden just about anything!

We currently offer four options for decorating.

Creams & Charms

We have over 100 colours of decoden cream, 40 drips and over 3000 resin charms, gems and sprinkles to choose from!

Our charms stock changes all the time, we always have something new!
If there's something specific you are after, feel free to reach out to us beforehand!

Naturally we will add more charms with each workshop!

Public Workshop - Monthly

Walk-in customers are welcome but we do recommend booking a place in advance.

The workshop is held on the second Sunday of every month from 1pm at:

Cullinanplein 1
1074 JM
Amsterdam

What to Expect:
This is a fully taught, instructor-led session suitable for all skill levels.
Workshops can be conducted in English or Dutch.

The workshops are recommended for +8 years old.
(Children younger than 8 years will have difficulty squeezing the piping bags).

• First hour: Select your item, charms and creams.
Learn how to design your layout, use the silicone cream, and practise piping techniques.

• Final hour: Create your own custom artwork using your chosen charms and decorations.

What is the difference between a public workshop and a private workshop?

Public Workshop:
1. Cheaper tickets.
2. Fixed location, date and start time for workshop.
3. Other people will be present doing other crafts.
4. No food or drink allowed.
5. You may NOT bring your own food, drinks and cake and no time or space is allocated for eating and gift opening.

Private Workshop:
1. More expensive.
2. You can choose the venue, date and start time.
3. Completely private, no other people will be present.
4. We provide complimentary snacks and soft drinks.
5. You may bring your own food, drinks and cake. Time and space is allocated for eating and gift opening.

*Please note that this is a hands on crafting session.
We will be very happy to guide and assist you but we can not do the decorating for you.

You are purchasing an arts and craft activity with instruction, material and tools provided.
After instruction of the use of tools and materials, each person is left to express their own creativity in completeing their artwork.

The resulting artwork created is dependant on your own skill and creativity, we can not be held responsible if you are unhappy with the end result.*

Buy a DIY Decoden home kit

Want to decoden at home?

You can buy a DIY Decoden home kit at our monthly public workshop or email us here

origamicrane@gmail.com

We offer a wide selection of decoden supplies for sale, including mirrors, photo frames, creams, charms, aprons, and tools.
We can ship worldwide!

What makes us different is our personalised shopping experience:

Once you get in touch, we’ll email you photos of the items we currently have in stock—so you can handpick exactly what you want.

This gives you a truly customised service, allowing you to choose individual charms rather than settling for a preset selection.

We’re proud to be the only decoden webshop that offers this level of personalisation!
Most other decoden stores only sell pre-made kits with fixed charms—but we believe in giving you the freedom to create something that's uniquely yours.

What is in a DIY Decoden home kit?

A standard home kit costs €20 plus postage and includes the following items:

1. One shaped mirror or photo frame.
2. Two coloured creams and piping nozzles (50ml tubes).
3. 16 Charms of your choice.

Additonal charms are charged at €0.50 each.
Additional 50ml creams tubes are charged at €3.50 each.
Additional 100ml cream bags are charged at €7.00 each.

Once you have finalised your selection we will confirm the postage costs and send you our bank details for payment.

Why do we not have a webshop?

We were excited about the idea of launching a webshop to sell our DIY decoden home kits.
However, we soon realized that creating an efficient inventory system would be a major challenge.

We typically have over 6,000 charms in stock at any given time.
Each charm is personally selected by us from a variety of suppliers, and we restock twice a year.

With every order, we aim to bring in new and unique designs, purchasing only small quantities of each.
This ensures that repeat visitors to our live workshops always have fresh and exciting options to choose from.
Because of the way we purchase our charms—and how quickly some designs sell out—maintaining an accurate and up-to-date webshop would require constant updates.
We’d have to manually check our entire inventory and adjust the store accordingly, which simply isn’t practical for us at this time.
So far, we haven’t found a reliable automated system that can handle our needs.

More importantly, most online decoden stores offer kits with pre-selected sets of charms and creams.
We’re not fans of this approach.

What we love most about decoden is the opportunity to create something truly unique and personal.

That’s why we prefer to stick with a more hands-on, labor-intensive process that allows you to select your own items—every charm, every cream.
It may be more work on our end, but we believe it’s worth it to give you the best and most creative experience possible.

If you want to buy a home kit, please contact us.

About Us.

Dream Workshops Amsterdam was founded by siblings Camryn and Remy, with support from their father, Sam.

Camryn and Remy are schoolchildren who fell in love with decoden—a fun and decorative Japanese art form—but discovered there were no places in the Netherlands where they could enjoy it. So, they decided to start their own workshops to share their favorite hobby with others.

The workshops are usually taught by Camryn and Remy!
As they are still children, we currently offer just one public workshop per month.

We are proud to be the first and only decoden workshop provider in the Netherlands!

We began in November 2023 under the name Dream Decoden Amsterdam. Since then, we’ve expanded to include several other arts and crafts workshops, such as Hanfu hairsticks, Shrinky Dinks, Fuse bead pixel art and UV resin art.

We also brought our existing kimchi and Mindful Origami workshops under the same umbrella, and rebranded as Dream Workshops Amsterdam.

All our workshops celebrate Asian cultural themes—and above all, they’re designed to be fun, cute, and creative!

Sam, who was an IT engineer for two decades, is now a stay-at-home father, origami artist and workshop teacher.
He teaches cooking and Mindful origami workshops, works as an origami artist and florist and is the author of 'The Book of Mindful Origami' and 'The Magic of Mindful Origami'.
